A Plague Tale: Requiem - How to Defeat Armored Enemies

A Plague Tale: Requiem gives Amicia many new options and weapons to use in combat, but at the same time, the enemies are more dangerous than ever. The enemies you face come in essentially three different types; basic enemies, helmeted enemies, and armored enemies. As you might expect, the last kind is the most dangerous and requires a bit of work to take down. With that, here's everything you need to know about defeating armored enemies.

How to Defeat Armored Enemies in A Plague Tale: Requiem

You'll first encounter armored enemies about halfway through A Plague Tale: Requiem and the game will give you at least a bit of a hint on how to do it. The thing to keep in mind is that you always need to take their armor off before you can actually defeat them. To do this you need to use your sling to take out the chain that holds their armor in place, then you can hit their chest with a crossbow bolt, or burn them alive with fire and tar. However, armored enemies come in two types, so we'll go over both.

Mace-Wielding Armored Enemies

These hulking brutes carry a flaming made as weapon, and the chain you need to break is on their back. During stealth sections you can, of course, sneak by them, but the story makes you fight a few in combat encounters.

The best thing to do is use Extinguis ammo with your sling or a pot to blind the enemy, which creates an opening for you to circle behind and take out the chain. Once their armor plate is off simply hit them with a crossbow bolt. If you don't have a bolt you can always hit any nearby jars of tar with an Ignifer from your sling, or use tar in your sling first and then Ignifer.

Shield-Wielding Armored Enemies

Shielded enemies will pop up late in the story, and they're quite a bit more dangerous than their counterparts. Your first order of business is to make them drop their shield, and the best way to do this is to hit the torch in their hand with tar.

It'll always be easiest to hit a tar jar, but if you can't find one you can simply use tar from your sling, but you'll need to get the jump on them. If the shielded enemy has you in their sights they'll block anything you throw at them. One way to get around this is to combine tar with a jar and throw it.

Once the shield is down you need to take out the chain, which is actually on the front of their armor this time. The same tricks as before apply, and once the armor is off simply hit them with a crossbow bolt or burn them alive.

Now you should have no problem taking out any armored enemies you come across. Make sure to keep these tips in mind as you get into the later chapters of Requiem, as they tend to throw a ton of enemies at you.

With this information in mind, you should be able to deal with armored enemies in A Plague Tale: Requiem with relative ease. Check our our review of the game, as well as our guide on how to increase your skills in A Plague Tale: Requiem.
